Instead of using the standard numeric file naming scheme used by many digital cameras and smartphones (e.g., `DSC_12345.RAW`), users often prefer to rename their images with a more meaningful filename, such as `[Date]-[Time].RAW`. This approach allows for greater flexibility and organization in your image library.
The Renamer
In the digital asset management system (DAM) IMatch, renaming files is a straightforward process made possible by the Renamer feature. This robust tool enables users to quickly rename any number of files at once, leveraging dynamic naming options that incorporate:
- Date and time stamps for precise chronological organization
- Literal text modifications for customized file names
- A wide range of metadata values (e.g., author, creation date, keywords) to create unique, context-specific file names
By harnessing the power of IMatch’s Renamer feature, users can streamline their workflow, simplify file management, and enjoy a more organized digital asset library.
Distributing Files
In addition to renaming files, the Renamer is also capable of copying and moving files. Like with file names, the folder names to use when copying or moving files are dynamic, and are defined by using IMatch Variables. This for instance allows users to move files into date-based folders, which is a very common workflow. Or maybe move files into folders dynamically created from date, time, photographer id and camera make/model? No problem with IMatch’s Renamer.
Renaming and Distributing Files Automatically
IMatch allows users to run a Renamer preset automatically when new folders or files are added to the database.
In Edit menu > Preferences > Indexing. users can select when to automatically rename files and which Renamer preset to apply:
Once configured, IMatch automatically takes care for renaming and distributing new images and other files you add to your database. One less step you have to perform yourself.
Just one of the many time-saver features available in the digital asset management system IMatch.
