Unassigned Category - Do not dynamically update

I like to use the Unassigned Category to carry out bulk assignments to multiple categories. No problem in iMatch 3, but in 5 now as soon as you check one category (ie the image has just been assigned to its first category) the active category (Unassigned) updates and the image is removed from view. So you cannot now assign it to more categories. You have to find it in somewhere else.

Please can this dynamic updating be prevented in order to restore this usability - or possibly controlled via a preference?

This was recently discussed in another thread but I'll be darned if I can find it now to tell you which one it is.

In a nutshell this is by design and some of us like it the way it is.  One workaround for solving this issue is to first temporarily bookmark the images (or assign them to whichever your preferred collection is).  Then working in that collection assign the categories as you want before removing them from that collection.
