I know there used to be a menu or button in IMatch to copy a date from a file's metadata into a Date attribute.  I cannot seem to find it anywhere.  Is there a way to select several files and then copy the Date Created from metadata into the Date type attribute for each file?

I don't recall such a button or command.
You can use the Attribute Importer app in the The Import & Export Panel to import metadata into Attributes.

Actually you can import anything that can be expressed as a variable, which covers all IMatch standard variables, metadata and other Attributes.
To import the standard File.DateTime into a Date or DateTime attribute, you would use

If you use arbitrary date and/or DateTime metadata tags, make sure to use format:YYYY:MM:DD HH:MM:SS to produce the format IMatch expects for Attribute import. Same as always.

Hm... I thought for sure there was a way I used to do it quickly. I'll try the attribute import.  You know, I wonder if that's how my Date attribute got messed up for those 17,000 records, by using some undocumented method to import the Metadata date from the image file into the Date attribute?

I'm not aware of any other way to populate Attributes from Metadata. Unless I have missed something.
The Attribute Importer has been specifically designed for this purpose and is around for some years.
