Files calendar in Events: show only files from selected event?

Would it not be better if the files calendar in the events timeline only showed the files
included in the currently selected event?
I do not see the use of having all files in the timeline displayed.

This is exactly as it is designed to work. The File timeline arranges all your files along the timeline, in dependent of whether or not they are covered by one or more events.
Basically the same functionality of the current Timeline View, which may be removed at some later time.

But how can I then show the files for a particular event and day? (Other than filtering)?
If I click on a particular day with files it shows me all files of that day

This may be OK if events do not overlap by time and all files are included in the event.

The timeline arranges your files based on days and events.
If you want to combine multiple criteria like in your question, either

a) Look at a day and filter by event
(You can to this in the Event View or the normal Timeline View)

b) Look at an event and filter by day
