Delete, Reject or Ignore

When working with Face Management, I come with those unconfirmed faces.

Most of them are faces I don't want iMatch to bring them again to face management. They are people I don't have any interest on them. How to make those faces never been used by iMatch again.
Because no matter what, they are always shown later at someone's Face Management.

After selecting those faces, what is better to do ? Delete, Reject or Ignore ? Or anything else?

Reject means: "This is not this person, check for another".
Ignore means: "Do not assign a person to this face automatically"
Delete removes the face annotation.

In your case, Delete sees to be the best option?
Note that when you re-run face detection on the image again, the face will be re-created.

Since the questions about the meaning of REJECT, IGNORE, DELETE come up a lot may I suggest that these descriptions be added in the tips associated with the
buttons on the face manager.

Mario

I don't think this comes up a lot. What makes you think that?

It would just be more immediate info for the user who forgot what he/she read in the help.

Mario

These button already use tooltips, and their length is limited.

There are also many ways to reject, ignore and delete faces, in menus, in the Viewer, in the Face Manager.
A user should know what reject, ignore or delete means before he uses these commands.

I am curious, because i know this case as well.
Why should he use "delete" and not "ignore"?
These seem to be faces that are totally unknown and he never wants them to be considered during face recognition.

That totally depends on user's preferences.
When you ignore a face, you retain the face annotation and the system still knows that the file has a face. Not linked to a person, though.
When you delete the face, the annotation is gone and IMatch does not longer know that this file contains faces.
IMatch gives you the choice.

Let's assume i have another picture of the same person (still not of interest).
Is there a difference in how iMatch treats this new face, depending on my previous choice (delete or ignore)?

In my archive I manage many photographs of cultural heritage (paintings, sculptures, etc.). IMatch's Face detection generates a region on most faces, which it incorrectly attributes to some person or marks with "?".

So far I was deleting those unconfirmed faces, but this thread has made me doubt: would it be better to Ignore? I would have thousands of photos with regions that are of no use to me. I think it would be more logical to mark those photos so that IMatch doesn't look for faces, but I don't know how to do that or if that's possible.

Mario

IMatch only looks for faces in images you select and then trigger the face recognition.  So you are in full control of which images you process.
When you enable automatic face recognition, IMatch will analyze all new and updated images, unless they already have face data.

If you want to retain the info that an image contains a face, use ignore. Else delete the face annotation.
This is why IMatch offers these choices.
