Mostly transferred to new computer

I have a new computer (lucky me) and successfully transfer IMatch to the new one. Overall, everything seems in place except I am missing metadata templates and custom layouts for the metadata panel.

When I go to preferences, some settings seem OK.  I can see my changes to Metadata > XMP Geo & Maps > Services has my provider (GeoNames.org).  So I am partly there.

I did not use Pack & Go, rather I copied the database and the folders under %ProgramData% and %AppData%, after referring to help articles:

Traveling with IMatch https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#travel.htm
Pack & Go: https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#packandgo.htm

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Keep in mind that many settings in IMatch are computer-specific and user-specific.

Do you use the same user name on the new computer as on the old computer?
If not, check out the User Name Alias

Had to use different computer and user names. But applying a user name alias it indeed pulls in all the missing parts, thank you.

At this point I am 100% functional.

Would be nice to know: Is there no way to transfer or export/import settings (MD templates, etc. ) from one user to another?  Would Pack & Go do that?

Thanks again.

Mario

You cannot transfer per-user settings, except using an Alias.

But for some settings, like Metadata Templates, a dedicated Export/Import function exists. Also for file window layouts, I believe. Just check the help or the corresponding dialogs for Export and Import buttons.

Thank you @Mario and @thrinn.

I see the export/import for MD templates and MD panels and can give those a try.

Meanwhile, Alias works perfectly fine...was just trying to be perfectly "clean" [ or should I say anal  :) ] about the new installation since the old user name is a fossil.

IMatch is designed (and required to) allow multiple users to use it on the same computer.
IMatch is used in many "Scientific/Librarian" environments where sharing computers is normal - with different user accounts, though.

The Alias feature as been added many years ago when I learned that users sometimes change their user name when replacing their computer. And, for Windows 10, the now default "Microsoft account" log-in (which cannot be avoid on HOME versions of W10 I believe) often forces a user name change. Thanks to the User Name Alias feature you can still keep your old settings in IMatch.
