Versioning: Prevent overwriting of already existing metadata

Under "File Relations" I have created a rule to create versions of a photo.
Is there a way to prevent the versions from overwriting existing metadata?

Versions do nothing to metadata at all, unless you configure metadata propagation rules.
If you don't want to propagate metadata from the master to versions, don't enable metadata propagation.
