Tabular Layout - Top Vertical Alignment

When working in the Layout Editor, each of the twenty possible columns gives alignment options:  "Left", "Center", "Right".  However, I would like to have a top,left alignment for my Column 1, which is set to the index attribute. 
I know this has to be possible because the IMatch Help shows a screenshot with tabular columns aligned to the top, left.

No vertical alignment options available. The contents are always aligned vertically centered, for a long time.
The screen shot you are refer to the help dates back to IMatch 5, I believe. I shall replace it.
