Continuous scrolling through folders

I am new to iMatch, having been used to poor old Picasa. In the latter I could scroll continuously through the folder list without having to select each folder first - a method I like to use frequently; I'm sure this must be possible in iMatch (I saw a reference in another post saying it could be done) but I can't find how to do it. I expect the answer is very simple - is it?

Yes, this is quite simple to do in IMatch.  Just select your top-level folder in the Media and Folders View, and turn on the Show Hierarchy option.

Please see The Hierarchical Display Mode (Displaying files in sub-folders, child categories etc.) for more details.

I'm not entirely understand what you mean with scrolling endlessly through the folder list. But I will make a guess.

The IMatch File Window is a very powerful tool. But it may take an hour or so to learn about all it's features - but this is time well spent.

The File Window

I think what you attempt to do is seeing all folders in your database in the file window, files grouped per folder. Right?

Keep in mind that IMatch databases usually manage between 100,000 and 1 million files - a value that would have just exploded Picasa  ;)
IMatch hence does not just dump all files or all folders (or categories) into the File Window, forcing you to wade though 50,000 files just to see the ones you want.

By default, IMatch shows the files contained in the object you select. The files in a folder, the files in a category.
Via the The Hierarchical Display Mode you control if you also want to see the files in sub-folders (or child categories) and to which hierarchy depth.

If you click the database node in the Media & Folders tree, you see all files in your database. The hierarchy mode controls if they are grouped per folder or just displayed as a flat list (which adds extra flexibility in combination with sort profiles).

In you select the database and enable show hierarchy, you can endlessly scroll to all the images in your database, organized by folder.
Like in Picasa. And this works whether you have 20,000 files in your database or 500,000 files.

I strongly recommend to read the File Window help topic (and maybe watch the corresponding video tutorials).
In my experience, users upgrading to IMatch from simpler catalogers don't expect too much, and thus don't look.
And miss out on many features that make IMatch (in this case, the File Window) so powerful.

The search bar in the File Window can also do a lot more than Picasa could ever do. Also well worth spending 10 minutes to learn about this feature. It will save you a lot of time in the future.

As a new user, I also suggest you read one topic in the 'Did You Know?'' App every day. This way you learn a lot of cool things about IMatch in no time.

Thank you Mario for lots of useful info; but I think Tveloso has grasped the simpler question and answer: I just wanted to be able to scroll continuously. through the complete database. I did in fact realise eventually that I just had to select the top level folder - but thanks to Tveloso anyway.

I think because my question was at such a basic level you, with such deep knowledge, felt it must be about something more complicated!

Anyway, this is brilliant software and no doubt I will be upgrading from the trial version.

Thanks again.
