Laggy Mouse Response While Data Driven Category Refresh

I've noticed lately (not sure whether this was happening before) that whenever I refresh a data driven category, that there is a 1-2 sec. period in which not only is the Windows-busy circle present, but also that the mouse's response to movement is really slow.  Then it clears up.  This, even if I switch to Notepad.  Is this normal?

What kind of virus checker are you using? What kind of computer, how many processor cores, what database size (big diff between 50K and 500K files), how is the data-driven category set up?

Data-driven categories are updated in the background, in separate parallel threads.
This will cause some CPU utilization for a couple of seconds. And quite some disk activity.
If your system slows down, the most likely case is your virus checker kicking in and scanning the database thousands of times. Or your PC's maxed out and the CPU is throttled for some reason.
