Looks like some big players are interested in getting involved in mapping APIs: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/12/linux-amazon-meta-and-microsoft-want-to-break-the-google-maps-monopoly/ and
https://overturemaps.org/

Too soon to tell if this would impact IMatch mapping users. At the moment, the publicity seems aimed at very large consumers of map data. No mention of API use by individuals like IM users. Looks like more information may be forthcoming this spring. Interesting, though.

I know about this.

They expect initial results mid next year. And they strive to be OpenStreetMap compatible. So, if this ever gets of the ground, this should be fairly easy to integrate into IMatch - since I support OSM already.

What is puzzling to me is that TomTom is involved. TomTom already has high-quality maps from the entire world and if they into this, these high-quality maps and data should be the base to start from. And a good this should be...

Franky, knowing that Meta/Facebook is involved, I'm not expecting too much.
Like Google, which makes 96% of their money from collecting and selling data about their users, Meta pretty much makes all their money from tracking, collecting, utilizing and selling their user's data. I doubt that this new project will be any different.

I may be wrong, though.
