[NB] Stitched DNGs from Capture One not displayed correctly

Sometimes, DNGs created from Capture One 23 Pro by stitched panoramas or HDRs do not dsplay correctly.

I didn't notice it immediately because normally I also create a JPG as visual proxy which displays correctly.

I will send a link to download an example file to your support email.

Mario

IMatch uses the standard Windows WIC to load and process DNG files.

Unfortunately, there are now many, many special variants of DNG files around. DNG is no standard anymore, software and camera vendors ruined it.

If Windows does not support the DNG variant you produce, there is not much I can do.
It seems what IMatch gets from the WIC codec is rubbish. And that's that, then.

Please run a WIC diagnosis (Help menu > Support > ...) on the file and attach the results.

I can tell you more when I have the DNG file around.
Please note that my "My Metadata does not Work" and "This file does not display correctly" is full all the time.
Expect one or two weeks for me to look into this. This morning alone 3 new tickets where added to that queue...

I don't think it's a general problem with the DNG file format from Capture One as (as I mentioned in my post) only sometimes they are not displayed correctly. ~95% display correctly. And it's not a size problem either, as those are not the largest ones, neither by pixel size nor by file size.

If none displayed correctly, I would have looked at Capture One as the sole culprit.

I thought this was about DNGs not rendering correctly?

What does metadata copy mean?
What does metadata does have to do with it?
You copy metadata? And I also see a file version in place, so maybe there is also metadata propagation coming into action?

Hmm, looks like the forum software mixed up ...
The attachments are for another post altogether, ignore them here (I have removed them)

Mario

I doubt that the community software posts into the wrong thread. Never happened before, never been reported before.
You probably just replied to the wrong post.

No, I had started a new post in one browser tab when I answered to this post in another tab and the attachment uploads were not assigned to the correct browser tab.

WIC diagnosis reports:

WIC: Testing file 'E:\data\download\community\12990\R_AAAD20230112350-364_Pano.dng'
 Thumbnail: Codec 'DNG Decoder'
(GetThumbnail failed (88982F44 The bitmap codec does not support a thumbnail.).) 0x0 pixel in 0 ms.
 Preview: Codec 'DNG Decoder'
(GetPreview failed (88982F81 The operation is unsupported.).) 0x0 pixel in 0 ms.
 Full resolution: Codec 'DNG Decoder'
 () 160x120 pixel in 0 ms.

The largest image the WIC codec in Windows 11 can found in this particular file is a 160 pixel thumbnail.
Either C1 does something strange or Microsoft's DNG implementation does not cover the DNG variant produced by your software.

When I add this image to an IMatch database, IMatch first tries WIC.
Since the resulting image is too small, IMatch falls back automatically to using LibRaw. The result is a 9948 x 3972 pixel cache file that looks OK to me. No errors or warnings.

Looks like everything is working as it should.

Hmm, then I have to find out why my iMatch obviously doesn't fall back to LibRaw (or maybe LibRaw has sometimes an issue on my PC).
The strange thing is that most of the DNGs from Capture One work fine. Just some don't. And they are all from the same version of C1, often created on the same day and always on the same PC.

Mario

Yeah, well. I cannot comment further on this. I've downloaded your sample image and it worked immediately.
IMatch always falls back to LibRaw when WIC fails, this is hard-coded.
Not much else I could spend time on. I file this as a "one computer only" problem.

You can switch to photools.com RAW processing under Edit > Preferences > Application and avoid using WIC codecs entirely. That much about DNG as a standard file format...

I'll try that. Do I have to force an update of the images after that?
