This may be related to the solved bug report

(Multiple Values) strangeness (photools.com)
or
Copy metadata between files for Location Shown does not copy everything (photools.com)

I'm using latest Imatch 2023.1.10.
When clicking the checkmark after a metadata copy, some tags in some files change, visible in the multiple value shown for that tag. After write back these tag are empty in some files. Occasionally values are duplicated and separated with a semicolon.

See attach screenshots for steps to reproduce.

  • Copy all location tags
  • Paste all location tags to selection of images. Looks like everything looks like expected.
  • Click green checkmark, now below 2 tags show multiple value
  •     {File.MD.XMP::iptcExt\LocationShownCity\LocationShownCity\0}
  •     {File.MD.XMP::iptcExt\LocationShownLocationName\LocationShownLocationName\0}
  • In some of the files both tags are empty, other files are ok
  • Occasionally it looked like the values were added to the existing value with a semicolon.

I could not reproduce the issue with a small test database, but it is consistently a problem in my main database. It seems like somehow the tags are changing after committing the changes with the green checkmark.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks,

Heiner

How does the data between the main and test database differ?
Same files indexed? Same metadata set?

The difference is that the test database was newly created and has only 6 files. Metadata layouts are the same.
All of this happens before write back and the problematic tags will show duplicate values. If I deselect all files and check each file I can see the empty tags for some tags. I don't think it's a mapping issue between tags as I understand that that is happening during write back.

I may be wrong, but I do believe that this issue will be gone with this bug fix:

Add or modify author's name does not work for multiple files (photools.com)

Does this still happen with the current 2023.1.14 release?

If this is not fixed:
The layout in your screen shot is not one of the standard layouts shipped with IMatch 2023.
Can you please export that layout and attach it as a ZIP?

Hello Mario,

Just tested some more and I can confirm that the issue is gone and this can be closed.

Thanks for all the updates and bug fixes since 2023 was released!
