How to find duplicate images having different file names in the same folder. I set the scope to "search the file window", selected all the files in the window, and then search>duplicates. The result is all the duplicates in the DB!

The Search menu > Search for Duplicates command finds all duplicates for the files you have selected.
There is no scope. Where did you set a scope? In the File Window toolbar? This affects the search bar only, not other search commands.

Maybe just switch to the "Similar Images" Sort Profile.
This sorts all identical or visually similar files next to each other. Very convenient and visual.

I have done this many times but I always get duplicate for multiple folders, not only the folder I am searching in.

Yes. This is how this works. It searches the database for duplicates for the files you have selected (the "originals").
If you want to filter the results to files from certain folders, categories, collections, events, persons, use the Filter Panel in the result window. Or the search bar (folder name).

The quickest way to deal with duplicates in the same folder is to sort by similarity and then select and delete the dupes.

Very good.
If manually (visually) identifying the dupes is to much, select the originals as before, run the dupe search and then use the "Folder Filder" in the Filer Panel to show only dupes in the required folder.
