This follows on from my post in March this year and the ensuing conversation. I take Mario's point that he has enough to do without doing Adobe's work, that they should have done when they introduced DNG ver 1.7. However,...

I've been keeping an eye on possible developments that might be of use.
 1.  As far as I can tell, Adobe has done nothing about releasing a DNG codec that will handle the .jxl preview files in some dng images (colour me surprised!);
2. https://github.com/libjxl/libjxl seems to contain, not a DNG codec, but a .jxl converter. Is that any use?
3. There is an interesting thread on https://www.libraw.org/node/2808 which appears to document a user's (successful?) attempt to create a codec for DNG ver 1.7. Included in this is a vague hint that LibRaw may enable a .jxl compatible codec: " We'll probably make these flags (or similar ones) set by default in the next snapshot/release because JPEG-XL compressed DNGs becomes very common. "

I admit to being a naive optimist and I have no idea if the suggestions in 2 and 3 would be useful for iMatch, but there does appear to be a little constructive movement in this space. Maybe one day soon...?

Bruce

IMatch 2025 processes the DNG files with the (apparently exclusively used by Adobe JPGXL-compressed previews) I have here in my test library. Feel free to send me one of yours to test.
