After my old Dell died a while ago, I need a new desktop monitor. Permanently working on a 4k 15" notebook is not very comfortable.

My general requirements:
  • Photo/video editing
  • 27"
  • 4k
  • real HDR capable. e.g. VESA certified like DisplayHDR1000
  • pricing between 1000 - 1500 Euro/USD

Currently on my shortlist:
  • Eizo Coloredge CS2740 (excellent piece of hardware, but no HDR)
  • Asus ProArt  PA27UCX-K (Full HDR certified, but opinions in the web are positive and very negative)

I've looked at HDR monitors below 1000 Euro and there are a lot, but mostly focused on gaming, and lacking of other qualitiy features like colors, calibration....

What is your opinion and what can you recommend?

Those are both really fine monitors.. I would also recommend you take a look at the Asus ProArt PA27JCV.. you get a bump to 5K at the same size as the UCX-K.. I'd also highly recommend the upcoming BenQ PD2730S in this price range... BenQ used to be budget only.. but they are upped the ante with some amazing higher end monitors.  Supposed to be out in a week or so.. you can preorder now from many places!

Good luck.... I'm jealous!

Usually I wouldnt hesitate and buy the Eizo, but after checking out the new HDR function in Lightroom (not the HDR merge function) on monitors HDR capable and reading several article about HDR, I'm seriously considering buying an HDR monitor.

The HDR fuction in Lightroom shows you what you are giving away. Here a screenshot of LR on my HDR iPad. The histogram shows the HDR part of a RAW file you are loosing:
