Permanent version link

Versioning works like a charm. Once a version is detected a link between master and version is established. One can even rename the version and move to a different folder (even outside of the defined version detection folders) - data propagation still works.
However, as soon as versions are refreshed - and you have to refresh to add additional versions - all non-manual links (if not explicitely selected) are discarded and newly found version links are established. This is by design and fine. The drawback: one looses all previously identified and moved or renamed versions.
I'd like permanent links (as an option) to avoid deletions of existing links.
In fact - as far as I can see - the mechanism is already implemented to a great extend: as manual version link.
Please, can't you combine the version detection and manual link features? E.g. add a context menu item "declare version as manual" (or something similar) to an identified version?
The then workflow would be:
1.) create version (usually by raw processor)
2.) detect version and establish link (IM5 - mechanism already implemented)
3.) declare version link as "permanent" (IM 5 - requested feature)
4.) do whatever you want with the version in IM5 - the link to the master remains
5.) if wanted break permanent link (IM5  - function already available as "remove manual version")

To be able to "lock" a previously established version link sounds helpful to me.

Manual version definitions are supposed to be used as "permanent links".  They do everything you want, and that's why I have implemented them. No need for an additional type of version.

Also: You might want to reconsider your workflow if your actions deliberately break version chains. This should never happen under normal conditions and typical photographic / scientific workflows. Not every workflow necessarily agrees with advanced concepts like versions.

Just use a manual version rule for that. That's why they exist!

If I understand this correctly then we need a way to convert an automatic version link to a manual version link
in order to make the link permanent. Right?

Select the versions, focus the master and press Shift+Ctrl+M. Pick your manual version rule. Quick and easy to do.
