For the list, but not urgent,  would it be possible to add to the preferences of Geo & Maps a choice of D:M:S  -  D: decM  -  decD?

If this is possible, I'd endorse it also. In particular, being able to work with decimal degrees (from a GPS unit) can be very useful and more efficient than trying to work with DD MM SS.S.

This feature request is unclear. What do you mean with "add to the preferences of Geo & Maps a choice of D:M:S  -  D: decM  -  decD?"
I can add anything to the preferences, but what do with it? Display? Input? Where? When?

At present in the Metadata Location panel, the position is shown as D:M:S .  This request would enable the display to be shown in
more abbreviated formats: e.g.  15deg 13.55555m or 15.3333333deg or whatever.

Exactly. (For both display and editing.)

So we're talking about the Metadata Panel and not the Maps Panel?
The format used in the Metadata Panel is the format used by ExifTool, IMatch displays the data as delivered. If you edit your panel layout to use the RAW value, you get what you need.

Thanks! That addresses my decimal degree request. Is there a similarly simple way to address DigPeter's 'D: decM' request?

I don't know where he wants this to be applied...

I personally would be content with just decimal degrees in most instances, but in the case where one is given the location in a different format (e.g. D: decM), the ability to work in the metadata or the map panel in that form would save doing a manual conversion.

The map panel displays location as decimal degrees.   So if one wishes to search in the map panel on a location given in D:M:S format, it would first have to be converted.

I would love to see options for other grid references, expecially BNG (British National Grid).

I agree, but this is complex, involving advanced mathematics and algorithms.  It was done for BNG in a script by Khodadad at my request in IM3 - see: http://wiki.photoolsweb.com/index.php?title=GPS_Grid_Conversion .  There are some  sites on the web that cover this.  The OS has a spread sheet on its website at http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-and-government/help-and-support/navigation-technology/os-net/coordinate-spreadsheet.html .  Another site is Grid Inquest/QGSL at http://tinyurl.com/m45bgjl  .  These might be used as a basis for such a facility in IM.  I would support a separate feature request for this, but it should include UTM;   BNG is only of use to UK and does not cover the Channel Islands, believe it or not!
