Regular Expressions in "Metadata Search" of the Filter Panel

Okay, I'm using the "Metadata Search" of the Filter Panel to define my scope of view for my mp3 collection by years.  I wanted to have files returned for the file window that were hits in either 1973 or 1976.  I simply enabled all the tags that are of ID3.  Then I used a regular expression "1976|1973".  Works great!  Now, what about if I want to use this filter to further narrow my scope to mp3s that were Elton John hits in either 1973 or in 1976?  I know that I can define a new data driven category, catered for mp3 files to produce the hierarchical tree for me, and then just look under the "Elton John" node (the supplied one is probably good enough for this already!).  But, it's comfortable having the scope narrowed at the filter level for this too, so, is this possible?  It doesn't seem that regular expressions readily offer an AND operator.
