Does anyone have problems with MS-Indexer (win7) by working with IM5 ?

The only problem I had is that the indexing bogs down the system -- and if you have a HD bottleneck, it can overtax it (this is problem with LR and other programs that index photos as well).  I simply exclude the drives I use for photos and caching from being indexed by Windows.

Thanks, that helps more generally.
The cpu is relieved.
I had already disabled the service.
But after reboot it was reactivated.

But I have now recognized the following: jpg is not the problem. I have many pdf.  I want to use IM as a DAM. And The Problem and the bottleneck is in the first line of adobe. The preview (not thumbs) of pdf in viever are the problem.
And that seems to be a rather complicated and annoying theme.

Adobe should just get their act together and let one of their coders do a bit of maintenance on the shell extension. Adobe should be able to render a preview from any PDF file in a few milliseconds, or at least abort quickly with an error.

One IMatch 5 user reported that the component, when trying to view a preview in Windows Explorer or render a cache file for IMatch, consumes almost 3 GB RAM and then crashes after 5 minutes. Reproducible. The PDF file was created by Adobe Photoshop and has only one DIN A4 page. This was at least a year ago. Even with the latest Acrobat Reader, the problem can be reproduced. It seems that Adobe is more interesting in adding features to Acrobat which "pulls" you into their cloud services instead of getting the basics right. Pulling users into their cloud is of course more important from a money making perspective...

I'm not experiencing that problem, but I'm using the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/ that Mario recommended a long time ago when I was having issues with Sony RAW.  AFAIK, that's the codec being used to generate previews as well as thumbnails.  There' a free trial if you want to give it a shot.

If you have a WIC codec installed which handles PDF file, IMatch prefers it over the thumbnail features in Windows. Problem is that the FPV codec does not support all PDF flavors and variants. There are just too many different PDF versions in use today...
