Hello:
I was trying to explore this feature with no success.
I was trying to make a location for the photos taken at home.
So I went to the maps panel and create a New Location (1.jpg) - The coordinates gaven are not where I live ... -
Then I went to the Metadata options in Preferences and create a new template. (2.jpg)
Then I choose a picture to apply this new template (I run it from here 3.jpg)
This is the picture before run the Template.(4.jpg)
When I run it, it appears the yellow pen and the globe.(5.jpg)
I click on the yellow pen to save the information created before.
After saving, the picture remains like in 4.jpg
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

When you create a location in the Map panel, you can apply that location to all selected files via the "Apply" command available in the map panel. Or by right-clicking the location to bring up the menu.

The metadata template in your screen shot cannot work.
You set the GPS coordinates to "nothing" (no value given in the lower edit field) (effectively erasing them) and then apply one of your locations.

Just remove the lat/lng/alt tags from the upper list and only apply the location to make this work.
