Simple question: how can I hide the buddy files in the categorie view?

By anticipation thanks.

Chris

To show/hide buddy files, masters, versions, stacked files etc., use the File Properties filter in the Filter Panel.

Open the Filter Panel.
If the File Properties filter is not visible, show it via the drop-down menu in the toolbar.
Configure the filter by enabling the Hide buddy files option and then enable the filter via the check box in the filter caption.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for your quick answer.

In the past I did using Minolta Dimage A1. It gives a MRW-file and a THM, in my opinion a budy file (?). I followed your suggestion, but this file (THM) didn't hide.
I looked in the File Formats tabel and find the Minolta Digital Camera Formats with the .MRW extension, but not the THM. Can this be the problem? And how can I fix it?

If not? What to do?

Best regards,
Chris

Mario

You have to tell IMatch that you consider the THM file as a buddy file for the MRW file, via file relations.

IMatch uses a universal approach to buddy files and file versions, it has no hard-coded buddy file rules anymore. Please see the IMatch help system for details, just type buddy file into the help index to find the related information.

I did what you wrote. What I have achieved is that if I remove the master, even the buddy is removed. That happened not before the change. So the relation is working.
But still, while in the file properties, hide buddy files is checked, the buddy files are not hidden..... I'm sorry.... whats going wrong?

Chris

Works here.
When I rename/delete the CR2, the THM is renamed/deleted. Buddy file relation working.
Enabling the "hide buddy files" option in the File Properties filter (and also enabling the File Properties filter!) hides the THM from the file window.
When the filter is working, the file window caption becomes blue and a filter funnel is showing, correct?

Hi Mario,

I send you a print screen with, imo, all the information.
Hope it is enough to give an opinion.

Chris

Works here as well. I used

\.(mrw)$

and

^(_*{name})[+\-_]*[0-9|a-z]*\.thm$

Don't forget to refresh the relations for each folder after you make changes (<F4>,<R>) while the folder is selected in the Media & Folder tree.
Make sure that the THM files are in the same folder and that the names really match your expression.

Tip: Open the App Panel and switch to the Var Toy app.
The variable

{File.BuddyFiles}

returns a list of all buddy files for the currently selected file.

Do the THM files show up in the list when you select a MRW file?
Then hide buddy files should work as well. It works here in all cases.

As you can see on the print screen I use the same code as you. The filter panel is set correctly. The expression tester indicates that everything should work. Yet are ALL THM files in the display. Even after I've done a refresh. Even the file window caption becomes blue and the filter tunnel is showing.

Maybe the best thing I can do is in the File Manager File porperties> File Name to suppress the expresion THM; it does work well.

As I wrote: the relation for rename and delete a file works well.

Maybe it is also a question of misunderstanding?!

Again: thanks a lot for helping me.

Chris

Hallo Chris,

From your screenshot it seems that the file relation definition is OK, but there are no file relations established yet, I don't see the master / version icons on your images.
So you may try to select a couple of masters, hit the key sequence f4 R to rebuild the relations and see if that solves your problem.

Hope this helps,
Enjoy!

Herman.

Master/Version relations are independent from buddy files. They work independently.

This is usually a total no-brainer. Setup the relation, refresh the relation with <F4>,<R>, done.
If you rename the master and the THM is renamed as well, the relation works, and so should the filter.

Please a database diagnosis, maybe there is some hick-up or something.
I just reproduce your file formats and THM, setup your relation definition and, bang, works like a charm...

You are right of course. Silly me.... :-[

I could have known as Chris wrote:
Quoteif I remove the master, even the buddy is removed
which proves the relations are OK.

This case reminds me remotely of something I had long time ago with filters not working as expected.
At that time I was the only one seeing it, it could not be reproduced, so I had to find a work-around.
Right now that particular issue has vanished. Many variables have changed since then, not only new builds of IMatch but also the OS and installed software of my machine.....

Enjoy!

Herman.

Dear Mario,

I have found the solution already.....

You wrote: Do not forget to refresh the relations for each folder after you make changes (<F4>, <R>) while the directory is selected in the Media & Folder tree.
Make sure that the THM files are in the same directory and that the names really match your expression.
This sentence I do not read and understood well, sorry. I already wrote: a misunderstanding.

The second reason was that some buddy files no MRW-files had anymore; they had already deleted ..... Also there were some MP4 files that had a THM buddy .....

Thanks a lot for the great help you gave me and the patience you had.
Sincerely,
Chris
