folder won't rescan

I have a single folder within my picture database, located on an external hard drive, that does not want to re-scan.  Even selecting "re-scan now" does not seem to work.   The images, scanned from negatives, seem to be OK with no problems.

What do you mean with "does not seem to work"?
What do you expect to happen? What does happen?

The folder is marked for a background rescan. Is IMatch already scanning it perhaps?
Check the Info & Activity panel. Maybe IMatch is already at work.

Do you get an error or another message?
Unexpected results?
...

Please always attach the ZIPped log file so we can see what IMatch is doing. This will show us if there are any warnings or errors, etc.

See "log file" in the IMatch help for details, and: https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?topic=22.0

Thanks for the quick reply.  I managed to correct the problem, but perhaps not in the way I expected.

It turns out that iMatch had two instances of the primary directory for that part of the database which resides on drive E:

Previously I didn't see the second one because is was at the very bottom of the directory listing for the other instance of the directory.

Basically the database had a double record of all the files on E: with the only exception being that the categories were in the instance that would not scan.

To correct this I exited iMatch and changed the name of my base directory on drive E in windows explorer.  Then restarting imatch I "relocated" the instance of the files that, in iMatch, had the categories.  All the metadata was with the physical files.

Once that instance was rescanned, I "removed" the other instance within iMatch.

(I assume that my problem scanning the files (which appeared to need a rescan) was that they were being rescanned but iMatch had them in the other instance of its record of the folders.

I have no idea as to how or why iMatch came to have two instances of those folders recorded in the database.

I imagine that there was probably a better way to make this correction, but all seems well now.   (I did have backups of all files  :) ).

The only known ways to add the same folder twice to an IMatch database is to

a) Rename it outside IMatch and then adding it again to the database (instead of relocating the original folder), or
b) Changing the drive serial number (or move files to another drive, even with the same drive letter) and then adding the folder again (instead of relocating the original folder)

If you have the same folder twice:

+ Decide which is the 'real' folder (the folder for which all files have categories and metadata)
+ Use the "Remove form database" command to remove the older, duplicate folder.
+ If needed, use Relocate to bring the folder in the database in synch with the changes made (renaming a folder outside IMatch, moving files to another folder/disk etc.)

Thanks Mario.

That is indeed what happened.  I had moved the external portion of my database to a newer drive recently.   So it was your reason b).
