No thumbnails when using the image batch processor

I use the image batch processor frequently to resize larger jpeg files to smaller ones into a new folder. Usually, I do not add the new folder to the database. However, when I do, no thumbnails are visible in the new folder; there is a dummy thumbnail instead. If I send this to the viewer, the image is visible. What could be the problem?
Best regards, Wolfgang

Mario

Do you add the folder after the batch processor is finished? Or do you output to a folder that's already in the database? What happens if you press <F5> after clicking in the file window? Or when you close and re-open the database?

Do you use a virus checker or some other software which may lock files after they have been created or written to? This may block IMatch from loading the files. Did you check the IMatch log file for error messages and warnings? When IMatch fails to access files, it logs additional info there. This can be very helpful with diagnosing such strange effects.

See "log file" in the IMatch help system for details.

Dear Mario,

thanks for reply. I tried several options as suggested:

Close and reopen database: no thumbnails
Folder is generated by image batch processor: no thumbnails
Folder already exists: no thumbnails
Virus checker (GData) deactivated (no internet access): no thumbnails
F5: no thumbnails
Shift+F5:  no thumbnails
Strg+F5: no thumbnails
Strg+Shift+F5: normal update: no thumbnails
Strg+Shift+F5: forced update: see thumbnails!
Strg+Shift+F5: reload metadata: no thumbnails
Strg+Shift+F5: updae cache only: no thumnails

Log file is attached (IMATCH5_LOG.TXT)

For the time being: Strg+Shift+F5: forced update solves the problem. Or can you see a more elegant solution?

Best regards, Wolfgang

Mario

Is this the log file from the session where you successfully produced the thumbnails?
I would need a log file in debug mode (Help > Support) where you produce the original problem (no thumbnails).
Maybe this log contains some warnings or error messages which gives us a hint.

Dear Mario,

after closing iMatch, I deleted the log file. Then started iMatch again (logfile is again generated). Then I did this one operation: let image batch processor generate one output folder and resize two jpeg files into this folder. That logfile is now attached. I hope, this will show the problem. (I could not detect any error messages in that logfile.)

For logging, I used the debug mode.

Best regards,
Wolfgang

I don't see any BatchProcessor operations in this log file.
The Batch Processor addes extra entries and there would also be an AddOrUpdate folder method call when the output of the batch processor is added to the DB.
Nothing of that in this log file.

Perhaps, I added the wrong IMATCH5_LOG.TXT. Now, I used the image batch processor three times in one session. The file attached is the only one on my C:-Drive that has today's date.

Do the lines "Cache image outdated or missing" help clear the problem?

Best regards,
Wolfgang

This log file shows a batch processor action.
It also shows some folders being rescanned, files being checked for changes etc.
All looks totally normal. No errors. No warnings.

D:/02_Foto/Archiv_TV/Negative_TV/NEG01_TV/neg014_tv/

is found as a new folder and added to the database.

Files, e.g., neg014_04.jpg and neg014_04_nikon.jpg are added to the database. No errors, no warnings.

..

ExifTool is launched to extract metadata from the files

131 tags 'D:\02_Foto\Archiv_TV\Negative_TV\NEG01_TV\neg014_tv\neg014_04.jpg'
111 tags 'D:\02_Foto\Archiv_TV\Negative_TV\NEG01_TV\neg014_tv\neg014_04_nikon.jpg'

Thumbnails are successfully extracted from

D:\02_Foto\Archiv_TV\Negative_TV\NEG01_TV\neg014_tv\neg014_04.jpg with 1620 x 1080
and
D:\02_Foto\Archiv_TV\Negative_TV\NEG01_TV\neg014_tv\neg014_04_nikon.jpg

cache images are created etc.

Then it repeats with several other sets of files.

No errors or warnings in this log file. It looks all perfectly normal.

Fine, everything looks normal, except for the missing thumbnails.

So Shift+Strg+F5 and forced update will be my process of choice.

Thanks very much for your guidance.
Best regards,
Wolfgang

That's all I can see in the log file, sorry.

I tried to reproduce this here, but whether the output folder is already in the database or I let the Batch Processor add it (all levels or just the output folder), the thumbnails are always there and correct.

Did you try another Batch Processor preset? Perhaps your preset somehow causes this behavior.
