Selecting pics only from the TopCategory without SubCategory

I have a, maybe, easy question, but i don't find an answer.

From the past or from my first imports I have some pics only tagged with the top category (In the example family).
Most of my pictures are tagged correctly  only with the subcategories Brad, Peter etc.

Now I want to find all pictures from a top category, but without showing hundred/thousands of pics from the subcategories,
so that I can tag these pics correctly with only subcategories.

Any help or tipp how to find the solution?

I would like to be able to do this as well.
The only work around that I can find is to add the parent category to the selection filter at the bottom, and then drag the various "Child" categories to the exclude section of the filter.
Sorry, I don't have access to iMatch at the moment, so I'm not sure if I've used the proper terms, but this works although is very tedious if there are a lot of child categories.

If there is a better way, I'd love to know.

You can (temporarily) switch your top-level category to show only the files directly assigned to it (not also the files assigned to its files).
Select the category in the category view, and then enable the Direct sssignments only option.
No you see only the files assigned to Family directly.

Click on the option in the table to see the short help, press <F1> for the full help topic.

Or, create a new category somewhere (outside Family) which uses the @CatNoRecurse formula to refer to the Family category. This gives the same result.

Sorry, but I must correct my question.
I have searched 2 days the "Direct assignment only" option and not found.
Now I know that I only can find it for catagories.

In the meantime I noticed that I am working only with Keywords
and my question is correctly for @keywords|Objekte|Kunst|Graffiti

How can I only see the direct attached files on "Graffiti" without showing the pics from the subkeywords.
(see Attachment)

I will select only all pics which are direct assigned to the keyword Graffiti to bring them down to a lower level.

I also use @keyword categories and the script I've attached does what you (and I) want.

Mario

This can be done with the Category Filter in the Filter panel.

1.  Select the Graffiti @Keywords category in the Category View. Now you see all files which have Graffiti or one of it's sub-keywords assigned, recursively.

2.  To reduce this to files which have been assigned to Graffiti directly, enable the Category Filter in the Filter panel and check the box in front of the Graffiti keyword. Click it only once (one + sign) so it won't include the child categories:

Thank you so much, Mario,
for your detailled explanation and the picture.
Without the picture I would not have found the "Enabling" function.
So it was an easy  2 step approach.
1) Selecting the pics like your explanation through filtering
2) Moving the selected pics in a new sublevel "Unassigned"

Now I have time to assign these "Unassigned" to the right sublevel.

... and I will never forget these possibilities of the filter panel :-)

Mario

That's greats.

I suggest you read the help for the filter panel. It's packed with features that will make your (DAM) life easier.

Thank you both.
Yes, I read the topic before, but without an example it is a dry stuff :-)
and not in my "Original Muttersprache" ;-)

Wem sachste das, wem sachste das?  ;D
Specially if the topic is heavy and "gespickt mit englischen Fachausdrücken", then it is indeed not easy.  8)
