An easy way to turn filtering back on

It is easy to turn off filtering by clicking on the funnel on the banner panel.

Turning filtering back on is however cumbersome if one does not have the filter panel open.

Could we not just have the funnel icon remaining but greyed out so that clicking it turns filtering on again.

Background:
I do all my finding of particular files by using filtering.
When I have found a particular file I then use Ctrl-G to go the the folder the file is in.
Here I turn the filter off to see the file in its (in my case) historic context.
Once done I return to my filtering page and I need to turn on filtering again.
