Keyboard Shortcut for Metadata Writeback to Selected Files

For some reason the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+S (for writing back metadata to selected files) doesn't seem to be working in IM2017.  If I use the mouse and select that same function via drop-down menu Commands/Metadata Write-Back/For Selected Files it DOES work.  But I've gotten used to using the Ctrl+Alt+S functionality.  Is this a bug?

A further comment: changing metadata in the metadata panel DOES write back with Ctrl+Alt+S.   What doesn't seem to work is when I use the map panel to assign a location to a photo -- THEN the Ctrl+Alt+S shortcut doesn't work.  Puzzling...

When you click into the map panel, Windows makes it the active window. All keyboard shortcuts are only handled by the active window. Try to click into the file window before you use that keyboard shortcut.

OK, thanks, that works. . . but it would be nice if it could work even when the map panel is active.  It seems to work if I enter metadata, and leave the metadata panel in place, but I guess the new Map panel is different, with all its new functionality.   Apart from this small change, I'm really enjoying exploring IM 2017.

The Map panel or App panels are basically embedded web browsers. They are indeed very different and manage keyboard input on their own (so the apps running  in the browser can handle key presses in whatever way they want). I would much prefer not to fiddle with that, may break current or future apps.
