Hi,

My laptop has just crashed. I have got a new laptop. I used my backup to copy my images and the database to the new laptop.

My problem; the transfer went well, but the database will only open in 'Read Only Mode'.

I am using iMatch 2017, the new laptop is windows 8.1. The Old laptop was windows 10.

I would be greateful for any help.

1.  Have you installed a licensed version of IMatch on your new computer? The Trial/Evaluation version opens databases older than 30 days in read-only mode only.
To check: Go to Help > About in IMatch.

2. In the Database menu, make sure you have not accidentally enabled the option to open databases in read-only mode.

3. Make sure that your user account on the new system has read/write/modify file system privileges to the database file, the folder and all files in that folder (check in Windows Explorer).

When you can open the database in writable mode again, use the Relocate command to tell IMatch that your files have moved to a new disk.

Search for Relocate in the IMatch help system index for all details.

Hi Thank you for the prompt reply.

Everything you suggested was in place, but I still could not get out of the read-only state.

I decided to create a new, small, database to use for the time being. This is working well.

I took the crashed laptop to a computer mechanic. The problem is serious and could have corrupted the recent backup files. Alternatively, the problem could be trying to transfer from Windows 10 back to Windows 8.1.

Thank you again for your help, I will let you know how I get on.

Regards
Dave C :'(ake.

Please attach the IMatch log file (Help menu > Support > Copy Log file) after opening the database. I can then at least tell you why IMatch opened the database in r/o mode.

Hi, here is the log file from just after I started iMatch 2017 this morning.

Thank you

IMatch says: "Database file read-only/on read-only media."

Check the folder and file permissions for the database file in Windows Explorer.
