Is there an easy way to empty a category in a script?

I could not find a dedicated endpoint to empty a category.
I can only think of deleting and recreating the category, or
getting all the assigned files and then removing them all.
Is there a better way/trick? Should I make a feature request?

Background: In a script I want to mark the files of interest with a category. (temporary use)
I have to empty this category before I start the script lest some files are still assigned from the previous run.

IMatch has no function for emptying a category. Nor has IMWS.

Get the files in that category and then remove them. Two endpoint calls, easy.
