Sorry, folks,

only to be sure, are these lines at the start of an xmp-sidecar (created inside IM5 of a new nef) correct?

<?xpacket begin='' id='W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d'?>
<x:xmpmeta xmlns:x='adobe:ns:meta/' x:xmptk='Image::ExifTool 9.35'>
<rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf='http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#'>

I am a bit unsure, because the first line (begin='') looks a bit cryptic to me, but maybe this is completely correct.

BTW: I will go the xmp-sidecare line, like Mario, Ferdinand, Francis and others (THANKS!) suggested (and like the default from IM5)  :D
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

That's OK.
The three strange characters a so-called BOM (Byte Order Marc). The tell the reading application that the contents of this file are encoded in UTF-8.
