Geolocation issues with the latest version of IMatch

Hello everyone,
I use the map to locate my photos in IMatch. The small globe appears on the side of the photo and the GPS data appear in the appropriate tab in the "Metadata" panel. But when I want to do the "Reverse Geocode" and then I click on the little pencil to write the metadata that result in erasing the indication of the position on the map and at the same time the little globe is erased and the pencil reappears.
I have tried many beautiful times, nothing changes. If I want to continue to see the GPS data on the map or in the metadata, it seems that I do not have to enter this data, by the pencil or by "Ctrl-Alt-S" ... What n is not logical.

Another problem, but may not be related to the previous one: each time IMatch is launched, the program sends me a new version of Exiftool and announces that I am updating it, then it gives me back my hand. But if I restart IMatch, it signals me again the update of Exiftool and starts again.

I am running Windows 7 (SP1). Thank you in advance.

Mario

ExifTool reports that it cannot find its config file. This file is named "imatch_et.config" and must be in the same folder as exiftool.exe, which must be in the same folder as imatch6.exe.
This file is automatically installed when you install IMatch. ExifTool cannot run without this file.
On your machine, IMatch reports that it has been installed in H:\Program Files\photools.com\IMatch 2018\IMatch2018x64.exe, which is most likely not the default install location for applications in Windows. Have you moved your installation manually? Does the file "imatch_et.config" exist in that folder?

emef

Thank you Mario for the prompt reply.
So yes, this file exists where it should be: it is about 2 KB.

Small precision on the files which lose their localizations, they are JPEG files, coming from a smartphone Huawei Mate 10 Pro, which were treated with Snapseed before being imported on my computer and cataloged with IMatch.

Mario

If the config file cannot be found / accessed, ExifTool cannot work and this means no data can be written. The re-read following that wipes out the temporary changes. This explains the problem.
Why did you install on H:? Is the file acessible with the correct permissions? Do you have mixed installation, also an IMatch in c:\program files\.... ??

emef

For years I always proceeded as follows: "C" is reserved for the operating system and files specific to Windows (SSD 124 gigas); "H" is a 700 gigabyte SSD containing programs, caches and database. My "E" drive is a 1.5 TB HD where my photos (Raw and Jpeg) are. The only thing that could explain the new problem is that before the last update IMatch was under "H: \ Program Files \ Photools.com \ IMatch 6", while now I installed the latest version under "H : \ Program Files \ Photools.com \ IMatch 2018 ", After installation, I deleted the" IMatch 6 "directory, after making sure it was empty.

Mario

I can only recommend to keep the default installation location and folder names!
IMatch stores some folder names, e.g. the config folder once installed. When you later install IMatch into another folder, you break things and settings saved before. This can explain a lot, including this issue. Please uninstall IMatch, install it in the default folder and then check under Edit > Preference > Application that folder names point to the correct installation directory, especially the config file.

But, IMatch produces the path for the config file form the path in which exiftool.exe is installed.  And this is the path it hands over to ExifTool. But Exiftool on your system reports it cannot find the file: Error: File not found - 2018/imatch_et.config. So either the file is missing or ExifTool cannot access it. Please check file system permissions etc.

Hello Mario,
following your advice I uninstalled IMatch and proceeded to a new installation ... And everything seems worked perfectly    :)
Thanks again.

Mario

It's still strange. IMatch does not use absolute paths to address exiftool or the config file, only relative paths. In theory, this should work wherever IMatch is installed...

emef

Small precision: having set the registry of Windows Seven so that all programs external to the OS are installed on the "H", IMatch is of course installed again under "h: \ Program Files \ photools. com \ imatch6 \ ", and this time I let it go under imatch6.
At the previous installatiion, I had redirected it to "h: \ Program Files \ photools.com \ imatch 2018 \" ... This may explain that.   ;)

Mario

Maybe. IMatch6 may be used by several registry keys, settings database entries etc. if it was first installed into the official folder. Changing the name of a program folder is not a good idea, not only for IMatch.

emef

No, I may have misunderstood: during the installation, IMatch asked me to install itself in "h:\Program Files\photools.com\imatch6\" but I opted for "h:\program files\photools.com\imatch2018\" and the installation went well there ... that's when the problems started.     :-[
