As a consequence of how keywords were defined in my previous software for asset management,
all keywords in a lot of my picture files are within a category named "Photographs".
Is there a way to use the Thesaurus Manager (or any other tool) to get rid of that level
and promote all the rest of keywords one level up?
For example, pass Photographs|Animals|Fish|Labrus_merula to Animals|Fish|Labrus_merula

If you go to the @Keywords category in the category panel, you can drag and drop the sub-levels to a level above "Photographs" which will automatically adjust all the keywords.  There are lots of way to accomplish this.. but this one should be easy enough to do.

Good luck!

Mario

That would be the Category View, not the Category panel.
You can easily "move" files from one keyword to another (or a level up) with drag & drop within the special @Keywords category in the Category View.

Note:

1. Make a backup copy of your IMatch database before you make experiments on that level. Just copy the *.imd5 file to another folder.
2. Try with some example images first.
3. Unless you write-back the data to your images, all results are stored only inside your IMatch database.

Done, thanks. But a couple of new doubts come up:
1. I've selected 2 pictures for Metadata write-back, but
the pencil symbol is still there, why?
2. How could I update the thesaurus with the new @keyword structure?

Pencil symbol still there after the write-back?
This usually indicates a problem with the metadata in the file. Mostly, different keywords in IPTC, XMP and hierarchical XMP keywords.
Write back a second time to allow IMatch to set things straight. If this does not help, we need sample files to see the actual data in your images.

My fault, it works perfectly well.
Apologies

But what about updating the thesaurus?

Mario

The thesaurus stores "text" for any kind of metadata tag.
You can fill it from keywords in your file, and you can set the Keyword Panel to add newly assigned keywords automatically to your thesaurus.

See The Universal Thesaurus for all details, options and features available for the universal thesaurus in IMatch.

Sorry... wasn't in front of IM when I wrote that!
