More data-driven infos

Hi,

I'd like to create data-driven categories based on Attributes and other metadatas (in example Region Name in the MWG Regions, but I think it would be the best to make available all present metadata so we could use any kind of custom xmps).

Now I have to copy such infos with templates to other tags which can be seen in the data-driven tag selection window. So basically I have to duplicate them.

The second part is solved, I'm blind.

If I understand correctly what you want to do, it's already possible.

To create a data-driven category from MWG Region Name:

Create a new Category.
Right-click and select Advanced Commands/Data-Driven Properties.
Under Basic Settings, click the '...' box to the right of Tag.
In the Tag Selector, select and delete the contents of the Group box, then type 'Region' in the Tag box and click Search.
   (For some reason, some of the Groups don't show up in the Group box until you've previously selected them once.)

You should now be able to see and find the right tag, which I believe would be 'Region Name'.

That should give you a data-driven category with all your face names.

You can create data-driven categories for all the over 13,000 metadata tags supported by ExifTool and IMatch. Including MWG tags, the region tags, vendor-specific XMP tags, EXIF maker notes and whatnot.

You cannot create data-driven categories based on IMatch Attributes. But that's a totally different thing.

Mario: okay, I saw that I can use a lot of metadata, but because I didn't find MWG anywhere I thought that this will happen with other custom xmps, too. But I finally found it.

Don't feel bad; it took me more than a while to figure it out also. I've posted a new feature request about it.

I think the problem isn't so much what's in the Help as the fact that there's a default Group entry. If a user (especially a new one) isn't looking closely, they may not notice that the Group entry is limiting their search to that group. Hence my feature request that by default the Group box should be left blank (even when there's a fully populated drop-down Group list).

I believe that the contents of the Group drop-down get built based on searches by the user. I don't remember from my first use of IMatch 5, but I think the Group may have initially been blank. When you complete a search, the Group of that search gets added to the Group drop-down, sorted alphabetically. The advantage of this is that you'll never see the groups you never use (e.g., no 'Canon' if you only search for 'Nikon' maker notes. After all there are a very large number of possible Groups (see http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/#groups !!), most of which you'll never use. That's probably why Mario didn't include an "other" element.

The group and tag search boxes remember the last searches you did. This allows you to re-run previous searches quickly.

There are several hundred groups.
If you clear the group search box, you'll see all groups.
If you also disable the "Show only tags with data" you see all 13,000 tags and their groups. That's a lot and it will take a while to load all that info.
