Compare non-adjacent files in the Viewer

The viewer is a great tool to compare images quickly in various ways. When showing more images next to each other (L2, L3 and so on), the images selected are always adjacent to each other in the Viewer selection list. You can (temporarily) reorder the images (using the +/- keys).

Request: allow the user to select non-adjacent images in the film strip panel (e.g. using Ctrl-click) to show next to each other in the main window.

If that is possible, I would of course like it!
Specially when the images are far apart, than this would be a very good way and much quicker.

This is a substantial change. It affects many parts of the Viewer, from the selection and distribution mechanism of files to background cache-preloading, management of files marked for deletion, auto-forwarding when setting rating/label etc. A lot of functionality needs to be adapted and changed in order to implement this.

Why don't you just select the files you want to compare in the file window and press <Enter>? You don't even need to leave the Viewer for that.

That is what I do - not a problem for me.

Works fine with more than one monitor with the viewer on it's on monitor. But on a single monitor, it's more difficult.

Alt+Tab to switch to IMatch, select fliles, Enter to open the selected files in the Viewer (Assuming you want to keep the Viewer open).

This is how Window works. See the Windows help and for how to use Alt+Tab.

If you work with 2 monitors, you can just click inside the File Window to select other files. Even easier.

That was were I was afraid for.

Comparing images is important in early steps of the workflow and the viewer is great for that. Using the filmstrip to compare two (i hardly ever compare more than 2 at once) images seems the most intuitive for me. Great if this will sometime be available, before that I will use the various workarounds.
