Database locked frustration

Hi,

I hope someone can help because I am terribly stuck. When I try to run one of my databases I get the Database Locked message and it refuses to open. This may well have something to do with iMatch Webservices running as the error message suggests, but I have no idea how to tackle this. Surely the webservices can run concurrently to the actual program?

When I try to access that database from my Mac using Webservices, I am told something went wrong because there are too many user sessions active, which is nonsense since the database in question is neither open in iMatch nor can be accessed from webservices.

Help would be much appreciated.

1.  You cannot open the same database in IMatch WebServices and IMatch at the same same time. Both applications require exclusive access to the database.

2.  Most likely your Mac is unable to resolve the network name of the computer running IMWS. You need to use the IP address of the IMWS computer in this case.
This is a typical Mac problem, Apple does not support all standard name discovery protocols.

As to 1: I do not understand the exclusive access bit. If you cannot edit the database using webservices why does it need exclusive access? It is just looking.

IMWS can modify the database, for example to update data-driven categories, ingest new files, allow the user to edit metadata.
Hence IMWS opens the database in exclusive mode to stay in full control. If IMatch would be allowed to modify the database at the same time, catastrophic things could happen. And vice-versa.
