Option to not display visual proxies

As it is not possible to autodetect new or modified visual proxies when they are not in the same folder or a subfolder of the master, it would be very useful to have the option to generally hide the visual proxies. It makes no sense to have the raw (master) file and the visual proxy displayed side by side in the file window as they look absolutely the same.
This is just visual clutter.
Or, alternatively, make the version detection more intelligent so that it can detect additions/changes to versions or visual proxies, wherever they are.

I don't understand. What does "hide visual proxies" mean?
You can toggle visual proxies on and off via the corresponding commands and features provided.

See attached screenshot. If I have the visual proxy (a "developed" jpg) in the same folder as the original raw, I see both, which is useless, as they look the same and the proxy is only there to show how the "developed" raw looks like. I don't need it for anything else. It's like the embedded JPG preview in a DNG file.

Just move your version proxies into a sub-folder. This is the way to do this.
If you must keep the version files in the same folder as the masters, use a filter to hide them.
