Something like STACKS to associate files to each other

A stack is very useful to associate files that belong together with the stack top.

The limitation is that the stacked files all have to be in the same folder.

I often see the need to associate files with one file. A simple example would
be an image of a collage where I like to associate the files which went into making the collage with the final collage.

Before we switched to javascript I had a script which allowed me to record associated files in an attribute. It was somewhat
crude and cumbersome but it worked.  (I have unique file names which simplifies this)

Here I am suggesting a future addition to Imatch I would call Associate Files. Very similar to STACKS but allowing
associated files to be located anywhere in the database.

Of course one can group files together with categories but this leads to impractically many categories
and is probably confusing.

The purpose of this post is to see if there is interest among users for such a feature.
And if so, we should think it through and collect ideas as to what capabilities it should have.

Not true. Stacks can spread multiple folders. Think: Categories.

Also: You can use manual file relations to group files which belong together in some way.
That's the reason manual file relations exist. To group related files together, independent from the file format, the location of the files etc.
All things you need already exist in IMatch.

Fantastic. Here I am, an old time Imatch user, and I still don't know all the capabilities.

I did some initial testing and will now figure out which method suits me best (Stacks or Manual relations)
