New user, trying out imatch. I've searched this forum which refers me to imatch help which I've looked at for rescan etc.  I've set the preferences indexing to automatically check for changes, I've right clicked on the folder name in the Media & Folders window and clicked rescan now but can't get the folder to update.

I've added an image file in windows to one of my folders that imatch has in the database. However, imatch does not see this new file with preferences set to automatic, manual rescan and restarting imatch.

I assume there's some setting I've got that I'm not aware of that's causing trouble. I have no filters running.

So far I really like imatch but if I have to manually drag and drop new photos into the correct folders in the database every time I come back from a shoot, that may be just too cumbersome.....

Appreciate any help.

Jim

IMatch automatically monitors all folders in your database for changes (added, removed and updated files).
As soon as a change is detected, IMatch marks the folder with the "pending" icon and rescans it in the background as soon as possible.

All this is fully automatic and you don't need to do anything.

1. Do you see the "refresh" icon when you make changes to files in a folder?
See Rescanning Folders

If you don't see the icon and the file is not automatically included in your database:

2. Is the file in a format supported by IMatch?
3. Do you perhaps have disabled automatic background indexing under Edit > Preferences > Indexing?

For further analysis:

Switch IMatch to debug logging under Help menu > Support > Debug Logging.
Add a new file to a folder already in your database.
Copy, ZIP and attach the log file.

NOTE: IMatch does not automatically add new sub-folders during an automatic rescan. Only when you manually rescan a top-level folder (it will show the "refresh" icon) new folders are added. Just in case you place the files in sub-folders.

Mario,

Thanks for your reply. It was a jpeg file added to the folder already in imatch. I've set the indexing to auto in preferences and also tried the right click rescan now feature.

I'll try it again (I notice capture one found the file when I sychronized the same folder, so the jpeg file is good) with a different jpeg file and again with a different folder.

If that is still not good, I'll do the logging you suggested.

Tried it again with different file and different folder. When I look in media and folders pane, the folder has an icon and when I hover over it, it showed a change to the folder but the file still doesn't show in the main viewing pane and the count at the top of the window doesn't change. I noticed when I did the rescan menu option, a couple of text boxes flashed on the screen and disappeared much too fast to read anything.

I've attached the debug log file.

The log file reports a strange thing:

Skipping hidden/system file 'I:\_Photos\Birds\Cardinal\Limpkin baby Apr 18 2019.jpg'

Is this the file that does not show up?
In that case, remove the hidden/system flag from it (in Windows Explorer).
IMatch by default does not index files marked as hidden or system in the file system. Usually such files are part of the operating system, not normal image files.

if your workflow produces files with hidden/system flags, consider changing it. It's pretty unusual.

Mario,

Thanks for your help. Yes, for some reason these files did have the hidden attribute set. Capture one and win file manager could see the files so didn't think of that as a problem.

Not sure how the attribute got set although I did have a problem with the computer recently. I've reset my photo folder with the hidden attribute un set just in case.

Will do some more testing.

Thanks,

Jim

IMatch by default does not index hidden files (assuming that when a user marks a file as hidden, he has his reasons...).
Windows Explorer shows hidden files only when you explicitly enable that. Capture Pro may not care for this attribute.

You can tell IMatch to index hidden files under Edit > Preferences > Indexing. But I recommend to leave this option enabled and instead remove the hidden Attribute from your files. And maybe find out which application is hiding your files...

Crkr Jim

thanks for your help.

I got the files un-hidden and then had a problem with all folder files being read only. Would change that in file manager but it would revert. Messed with group policies and finally went to regedit but still problems.

So I had the fun of resetting windows.

I've downloaded the imatch trial again (along with all my other programs, data on ext drive so no prob there). All is working well, really liking imatch so will purchase it at the end of the trial period.

How strange. And scary. Never heard about folders becoming read-only automatically...computers never seize to puzzle me  ;)
