Pending Metadata Write-back - Text Files

I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended behavior. In my folder of genealogy photo scans, I have a number of text files with the same (pre-extension) names as the image files/XMP files. They contain additional notes about the photos that I added some years ago. These files show in Collections/Pending Metadata Write-back (a pending Keyword, if I click the yellow pencil). Apparently, I included the text files when I selected images to add a 'Genealogy' keyword. Of course, IMatch can't write a keyword directly to the text files; the keyword is however assigned to the corresponding XMP files. ExifTool output:
-overwrite_original
-m
-use
MWG
-ex
-sep

-IPTC:Keywords=Genealogy
-XMP:CreatorTool=photools.com IMatch 5.0.0.116 (Windows)

-xmp:InstanceID=xmp.iid:d2b764a8-115f-450d-80e9-0230e3c08de9

-MWG:ModifyDate=now
-XMP:MetadataDate=now
D:\Users\Harmon\My Documents\Magic Briefcase\Genealogy\Pictures\Crandall, Frank wedding .XMP
-execute9999

    1 image files updated

----- Runtime: 0.1 s.

Is this expected behavior? Is there a way to exclude the text files from Pending Metadata Write-back (or get it to recognize that the metadata is already assigned to the XMP files)? Do I need to add TXT files to my buddy file definition?

I have a similar issue with a MOV file with a corresponding XMP file. I believe all my Metadata settings are default. The Pending Metadata flag persists even though the XMP shows all the metadata I've added. Here's the ExifTool output (I clicked the pencil icon twice):
-overwrite_original
-m
-use
MWG
-ex
-sep

-IPTC:Keywords=Smugmug
-XMP:CreatorTool=photools.com IMatch 5.0.0.116 (Windows)

-xmp:InstanceID=xmp.iid:a5a84fa5-deec-4cdb-8ca1-9ae45ae4a677

-MWG:ModifyDate=now
-XMP:MetadataDate=now
D:\Users\Harmon\Pictures\Nikon 1\2013_0923\DSC_0069.XMP
-execute9999

    1 image files updated

----- Runtime: 0.1 s.
-overwrite_original

-IPTC:Keywords=Smugmug
-XMP:CreatorTool=photools.com IMatch 5.0.0.116 (Windows)

-xmp:InstanceID=xmp.iid:7c5cb496-0aa4-4440-b3e1-aa904d47a764

Another example in the same Genealogy folder is an HTM file with a corresponding XMP file. Again, the XMP appears to have been updated, but the HTM file shows the pencil.
