Hi Folks,
I'm currently trialling iMatch, and I would appreciate help and guidance with the following issue.
My aim is to caption approximately 60,000 digital photographic images with Person Shown, Date, Location and Event.
I have been able to set up a Data Driven Category to filter out if Person Shown tags are present in any of the existing images.
This 'Smart Filter' appears to be working as expected: when I have the complete database of pictures selected, I can see a list of the various Persons Shown in the pictures. I am also able to filter out groups of pictures for each individual Person Shown (and identify any 'Others pictures that are not tagged with 'Person Shown'.
However, I am unsure how to apply the Data Driven Category to filter individual folders to see if they contain files containing Person Shown tags, and how to display the pictures containing (for example) 'John Smith' at folder level.
I would appreciate any insight as to how this can be achieved,
Regards,
Stephen

I'm not sure that I can follow.

Data-driven categories process all files in the database and group files based on your criteria.
You could use the folder tag on the top level to produce one data-driven category per folder, and below that whatever criteria you need in addition.
If this is what you want?

Else you could just use a folder filter while looking at one of your data-driven categories in the Filter Panel to limit what you see in the File Window one or more folders?

Quote(for example) 'John Smith' at folder level.

Enable the hierarchical mode to see all folders in the file window. Then search for John Smith in the File Window search bar?
This shows you, per folder, all files matching John Smith.

Or, use a Metadata Value filter in the Filter panel for the Persons shown tag.
This shows you all individual values for this tag (Mary, John Smith, Peter;Mary, ...) for the current scope. And the current scope can be a folder or your entire database.
Click on the value you're interested in to see only matching files. See Value Filter

Welcome to IMatch!

I'm not sure I follow what you want to do either but if you create a formula category that filters the folder or folders you want to check you can use that formula with your data-driven category.  For example in the attached screenshots my formula category filters out everything except for the files in the subfolders of my

D:\Mine\Photos\Years

Folder.

The other screenshot shows how I am using that formula category in my chronology data-driven category.  Also note the way I use regular expressions (^ $) in the formula category name.

Hello John and Mario,
Thank you for your swift and insightful replies to my query. I realise now that I was using the incorrect terminology and approach to describe what I was trying to achieve with the software. Following Mario's response, I have now set up a Metadata Value filter in the Filter panel for the Persons shown tag and I am now obtaining the results I expected.
I appreciate the input and help,
Regards,
Stephen

Very good.

IMatch is a big software with many, many features. Impossible to know everything from the start.
Even I need to consult the Help System for details about specific functions, workflow suggestions and tips & tricks.
