Title: Question about a Category issue
Post by: Lana on July 19, 2020, 05:27:59 AM
I have a quick question, I'm sure it's a simple fix.  But I can't figure it out.

I have a Birthday Category, which I have set up like this:

Birthdays
-Birthday 2020 (0/237)
-Susan (237)
-Birthday 2019 (0)
-Jay (153)
-Mike (73)
-Tayler (108)
-Birthday 2018 (0)
-Dylan (52)

I cannot figure out why "Birthday 2020" displays (0/237) instead of just (0) like the others. As far as I can determine, the "Susan" pictures are just assigned to "Susan".  I can let it go and just live with it, but it's really driving me crazy.

I appreciate your help, thanks.

The first number is the images assigned to the category. The second number the sum of all images assigned to the child categories (recursively).
See: Category Counts (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#cat_basics.htm?dl=h-30) in the category help topic.

Thanks Mario,

So then in my example, why does "Birthday 2019" have a (0) instead of (0/330)?

I guess that's what caused my confusion.

Thank you

Where do you see that? Category View? Category Panel?

Categories show one count only when

There are no children
The category is an Alias category
The category is set to show only directly assigned files (check the properties of the category)

Ok, category was set to show direct assignments only.  I understand now.  Thank you!
