Hi all
I do, like most of you, my files naming with a sheme like
yyyy-mm-dd-hh-unique number.ext
2020-08-10-17_33_781291.jpg
(in reality I have a more complicated naming-system)
This is very good for sorting, finding and so on.
Now, there are always some special files from special software, what does use it's own file-naming-system.
And if you break this, some problems will occure, because the soft does not more find the file.
I speak from files, e.g. for 3D-pictures or videos with rendering single images.
And I am sure, there will be more files out there, what is "dangerous" to rename.
In my case files like:
project.zip (for 3D)
Rendered - 5d258890-84ba-4110-9e91-041919784abb.mpeg (for videos)
thumbnails.zip
dense_cloud.oc3
sound-files
Do you leave these files as they are, rename theme nevertheless, use a separate Database, what do you do in such cases?
Thanks for any input.
I have a similar "problem" and solved it like this:
- leave name as it is
- created special category (like project name)
- assigned category to the file/media
- added special keywords if possible/necessary
Personally - I don't include them in my database which for me is only for photos and videos taken with camera/phone. I instead use software designed for that purpose such as Plex for movies/tutorials and Calibre for ebooks/PDF files. For other unique files such as 3D parts, I will setup a custom view using XYPlorer with a dedicated and locked tab on the commander bar.. just one of 20 or 30 I have setup for file exploring in Windows.
Forget to mention that I also do this only for photos, videos and audio files I use within a project.
I rename them to match my naming convention
Thanks, guys, for all your inputs. :)
I will think about it a while and decide then, what I will do.
