Title: Behaviour of TAB key in metadata panel
Post by: ben on February 15, 2021, 11:00:40 PM
Please adapt the behaviour of the TAB key in the metadata panel to the behaviour in the keyword panel.
TAB should select the first item of the thesaurus drop down.

I recall, there was a FR for the metadata panel a while ago.
The metadata panel got updated, which works as other windows drop downs now.
The metadata panel should work the same way.

Thanks for considering this!

The <Tab> key in the Metadata panel (and <Shift>+<Tab>) is used to navigate between the tag input fields for speed purposes.
The <Cursor-down> key selects entries in the Thesaurus after you've typed some text. And then <Return> applies that entry and closes the Thesaurus drop-down.
To open the thesaurus drop-down without starting typing, press <Ctrl>+<Cursor down>. Then <Cursor down> to select and <Enter> to apply.

Couldn't we use TAB for both functions?

When drop down is not visible: TAB navigates to the next input
When the drop down is visible: TAB works like in the keyword panel

This way the current behaviour is kept and TAB  additionally behaves more windows style for a drop down and also equal to the keyword panel

This behavior is in place since IMatch 5 and I bet it would cause a lot of confusion and problems when I suddenly change how the <Tab> key works in the metadata panel.
