Title: Media and Folders view font size
Post by: Stuntflyer on December 18, 2022, 06:02:07 PM
I would like to request a feature whereby the Media and Folders view could have an option for an even larger font than currently available.

I understand that there are other more widely used IMatch modules that have the option. However the M&F view is often used for locating photos. Upping the font size option on a 2560 x 1440 monitor by 25% would be most helpful for those with less than perfect vision.

Having to change scaling or resolution larger than the monitor default means that everything changes system wide and might not be the best solution. Often this can be managed by the individual programs like PS, LR, DigiKam, RT and Darktable, to name a few.

Thanks,

Mike

Which fonts exactly do you mean? I use IM on a 15" 4k Monitor (Notebook) with the default upscaling of 250%. Using my glasses while sitting in front of my NB, I can see everything very clearly.

A larger font size for what? The tree control on the left with the folders (this is a Windows-provided control and Windows automatically picks the font size for it) or for the text shown in the file File Window?

I use IMatch on a 1920px tablet (scaling 100%) and on 4K monitors (scaling 150%) and on a notebook with 2560px without any readability issues.

By default, IMatch uses the "control font" metrics as the base. This is the font Windows uses for menus and all system controls. The font size thus automatically scales in IMatch, depending on the size of the control font, which depends on screen resolution and font-scaling. This should usually just work fine.

Show us a screen shot so we see what you see.

This is what my UHD 27" 2560X1440 monitor shows with no scaling. The tree folder font on the left is too small.

There are things you can try:
1. Upscaling in Windows
2. High DPI settigs of the programm (IMatch itself): right click on the exe -> properties -> compatibilty -> high DPI settings > override by application or system or system extended.
Both option dont do any harm as you always can go back.

With my upscaling of 250% I have no problem in any other application. Problems can only appear with software that has been released before highres/highdpi monitors were available, like Adobe (LR 5, PS 5 etc.)

Looks OK to me.

The font size Windows has chosen for the tree control looks identical to the font size used for menus, in the MD panel etc.
This is the expected behavior. Windows Explorer should use the same font size, for example.

Can you be more specific as to what should be checked here if I want to leave my monitor resolution to default and font scaling in windows at 100%

Okay, I do understand what you are saying, Mario. However I'm just wondering why I am unable to change the thumbnail size for media and folders under the settings icon. Whether I choose tiny or xxl, the thumbnail stays the same size.

So, I have no idea how, but after some trial and error with the settings, everything is good now.

Thanks for all the suggestions and info on the subject.
