Title: [OFFICIAL] I'm planning to retire the Email Import & Export Module
Post by: Mario on June 20, 2024, 05:12:01 PM
This module uses "old" technologies for sending emails which are retired slowly in Windows.

Looking at telemetry, only one user has used this export module in the past 6 months.
He configured it and send one message (probably the test message).

Any problem with me retiring this module?
People these days send emails usually with web clients (Gmail, Outlook, ...)

I never used this feature; so OK for me to remove it.

I never used it.  And, I even asked myself, "What is this doing in IMatch?"

This was added long ago in IMatch 5.
At that time, many users used it to batch convert images and send them via email to friends and clients in one swoop.
It worked very well.

Today, you drag images directly from IMatch into your browser-based mailer or batch process them first and then drag the results into emails, Facebook, Insta and similar.

Times change and I constantly adapt IMatch. Getting rid of no longer used, or useful, features is part of the process. I use telemetry data to judge if I can remove something. And, since not all IMatch users participate in telemetry, I ask here to get a broader audience, just to be sure.

Yes, probably a feature that's no longer needed these days, given the popularity of WebMail, over a local Mail Client (I myself still prefer the latter though - but probably would still not use IMatch's email module)

Didn't even know it existed.

I'm not yet a paid up user, but I would not use this feature, since I do all my image processing in Lightroom, and use their email feature.

BTW, I still use Office 365 Outlook, precisely because it's an integrated package and I prefer to keep copies of old emails on my system.
