Title: Where are my preferences stored?
Post by: GOC53 on August 13, 2024, 06:23:12 PM
Over the years, I have refined my IMatch preferences for all sorts of things. Also layouts. I have very recently got a new computer and find that my downloaded copy of IMatch does not look like the copy on my old computer.

Is there a file of preferences on my old computer that I can transfer to the new one to make IMatch look like it used to?

See Installing IMatch on a New Computer (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/how-to-move-imatch-to-a-new-computer.htm?dl=hid-1) and let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks Mario. It worked very well - after I unhid "protected operating system files"!

I get a new computer infrequently so remembering the minutia for every program is rather difficult.

And once again a very prompt reply!

You needed that for what?
The files in the photools.com ProgramData folder are not system files and are accessible for all users.

The IMatch help file says:-
----------------------------------------
2.1 Manually Copying Databases and Settings
If you don't want to use Pack & Go, you can manually copy your databases and settings to the new PC.
2.1.1 Copy Settings
The most important folder is the
config
folder. It contains the settings database (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/settings_db.htm) and other files that contain app settings, the Pack & Go configuration etc.
Assuming the default locations, copy the folder:
C:\ProgramData\photools.com\IMatchN\config

to the new computer, into the same location. The N stands for the IMatch generation you are using. At the time of writing, this is 6.
--------------------------
My copy of File Explorer does not show c:\ProgramData unless I go into File Explorer Options and untick "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
