Title: Filter window -> remove 'No filters active.' popup
Post by: Ger on December 09, 2024, 03:30:21 PM
This feature request is a nice-to-have, and maybe it's not an annoyance for others.

I use the Filter Panel extensively, with both defined and ad hoc filters. If there are no filters active, a blue pop-up with the test 'No filters active.' appears above the panel with predefined filters. If filters are active, the popup is not visible.

If I want to quickly change filters, I regularly click wrong, because I disable filter a  and then enable a filter b. If there are no other filters active, the popup appears after disabling filter a... and all other filters move down a bit.

I don't really need the 'No filters active.' popup as the status bar in the File Window already changes color (green = no filters, blue = filter active).
It would be great if this small pop-up can be disabled, or made visible always (only the text changes).

I'm always in favour of clickable options not moving, reducing the risk of clicking the wrong one

I've added this usage hint years ago, because users were unaware of the fact that no filters were activated. The changing File Window caption did not do anything to help with that.

Confusion (and related emails/posts) dropped to zero after I've added this usage hint :)

Maybe enable b first and then disable a? This avoids the "no filters active" situation.

I've decided to keep things as they are.
I've tried it and it works OK. Even when I disable the last active stored filter, the 0.5 second delay before the "No Filter" banner shows is acceptable. The short delay is because the Filter Manager must let all loaded filters update before it can determine if there is no active filter anymore.

In IMatch 2025, stored filters are easy available via the Quick Filter:

which, by my guess, most users will then use in the future. Hiding the Filter Manager in the Filter Panel to have more room for filter panels and activating stored filters from the drop-down menu in the Quick Filter ribbon.
