Title: Update Configuration of the filter tab
Post by: mosdubindi1 on March 12, 2025, 01:37:44 PM
Hello Mario,

Now there is one Filter variable in the Filter tab configuration. For complex cases it could be helpful to have 2 Filter variable. What do you think?

Regards,
Dmitry

Filters based on variables should be the last resort, when none of the ~20 filters can do the trick.
What are your filter requirements?

Tip: You can always produce a data-driven category based on one or more variables, and then combine this with a variable filter in the Filter Panel for ad-hoc filters.

Thank you Mario, my workflow is rather peculiar, so I do not want to bother you with the details. I'll examine the option with data-driven category, looks like it wll work fine for me.

Very well. Unless you need the category very often, make it "manual update" to prevent it from pulling performance down.

I've tested combination of data-driven category and filter variable - it is working fine. Again I'm amazed how powerful and outstanding is IMatch! Lucky day for me when I decided to shift from Adobe LR to IMatch.

The test database is small and there is no problem with performance. For the work database I've monitor the performance.

I hear that often. Unfortunately. I'm sure more people would be happier with IMatch, but I don't know how to reach them.

Adobe spends 5 billion (!) US$ per year on marketing, channel marketing, ads, influencers, endorsers and magazine and photography web site posts. They are basically muting the competing with this money...

Let others know about IMatch. Post about it in forums. This helps me a lot.

Good idea. The performance is O(n), which means linear. Processing 10,000 files will roughly take 10 times as long as processing 1,000 files. Due to the nature of variables and how data-driven categories need to be calculated, IMatch can do only so much to optimize this.

For sure I'll write the positive review for IMatch, just want to prepare it carefully. Hope IMatch will find the way to much more customers.
