Title: Modifying metadata to stacked images
Post by: DigPeter on August 03, 2013, 04:03:36 PM
If title or other metatadata needs to be changed or added to all images in a stack, the stack has to be first deleted, or individual images selected in the Stacks Panel and the images modified one at a time.  Is there a reason why they cannot all be modified together, in the same way that all selected images in the File Window can be?

If there are no other thoughts on this subject, I will post it in 'Feature Requests'

Thanks  - I missed that debate.  I have added my support, despite the contrary views.

You don't need to delete the stack. Just expand it to see all files.

<Shift>+<E>
<Ctrl>+<Shift>+<A>

expands the stack and selects all files in the stack. Now do your thing.

<Shift>+<C> to collapse the stack again if desired.

Stacked files are not loaded by IMatch and the File Window is not aware of them unless you expand the stack. This not only makes loading large stacked file sets much faster, but also conserves memory and other resources. It also adheres to the standard paradigm in IMatch where you work with all selected files. Stacked files are hidden (except the top) and thus cannot be selected.

Thanks Mario,

I understand the principles now.  If it is difficult to implement and appears to have only few supporters, I reaalise that you have more important things to do.

I'm sure that a some users will have to adapt to how IMatch handles stacked files.
From testing experience I know that some assume that performing a command on the stack top will perform the same command to all other files in the stack - but others assume exactly the opposite  ::)

I therefore decided how to implement this. I think once a user has memorized that he only ever manipulates visible and selected files (whether stacked or not), he will  make this his second nature.
