Title: Recommended fields for "uncertainty marker"
Post by: Polarigel on February 06, 2016, 05:10:08 PM
Hi

I'm trying to cataloge scanned slides. For a lot of them, i only roughly know when and where the image was taken ("summer 1985"...). For my purposes it's good enough just to set estimated time and GPS-coordinates.

I would like to mark these images as "date estimated" and/ or "place estimated". Is there a recommended IPTC-field for that purpose or any good ideas how to do that (besides using keywords)

Thank you

Polarigel

First, the general recommendation here is to avoid IPTC metadata fields and instead use XMP fields.

Second, take a look at the Forum's 'FAQ, Workflow, Tutorials, Tips & Tricks' section https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?board=44.0.
See in particular https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?topic=517.0 which discusses imprecise date/times.

You may find some useful ideas there. Don't hesitate to post other questions/comments.

I'm not saying it's necessarily the best way but for years I've been appending information like that to the end of my Description (comments) tag.
